Happy New Year Again!

Today is Chinese New Year, also known as "Lunar New Year." It's a really festive time in Asian culture, with lots of gifts, parties, food, and especially those little red envelopes with money inside. My family had a little party yesterday to celebrate. We had so much food, I'm still full thinking about it.

I wanted to share with you all some pictures from a fashion show I was part of last year for Chinese New Year. It was televised on TV, but I believe it was only in the US. It was such a fun experience, especially since I don't know much about Vietnamese culture in general. The dress I'm wearing is a traditional "Ao Dai" which is somewhat like the national dress in Vietnam. The designs are quite intricate don't you think? They usually come in all sorts of colors ranging from pastels to brighter hues, but red is the most traditional. I was the only one at the fashion show actually wearing a "traditional" dress with long sleeves, a high collar, and a hat. Most of the other girls were wearing very modern ones, with one shoulder designs and open necklines. I felt like the makeup artist made my makeup too dark for my skintone, but surprisingly, on TV, I looked normal. It must have been all those bright lights they used for filming! I still prefer how I do my makeup myself though.

These pictures were taken by David Chung. You can see more of his work, as well as more pictures from the fashion show here.

Ready for Spring

I'm so ready for Spring! I love the bright colors and pastels that are so common during Spring time. However, the warm weather that has been gracing Southern California has finally left after a little rain this past weekend. It is now FREEZING....if you consider 50 F freezing :)

Did any of you get to see Beauty and The Beast in theaters this past weekend? If so, how was it? I didn't get to go myself because 1. I forgot and 2. 3D movies make me have a headache.

By the way, I created a new Facebook page for Bijou Minou. I'd love it if you all take a look and "like" it!

Little Things

I can't believe I made it through the first week of school! It was completely exhausting, with no time to take pictures for the blog. But I'm really happy it's the weekend now!!!

Just before my Christmas holiday ended, I ordered some scarves from from their BCBGeneration line. I've always been a huge fan of BCBG. I love their modern designs, fun use of colors, and the impeccable quality of their clothes. I love my new scarves, especially since I don't really have anything in these colors in my wardrobe yet. That green is lovely isn't it? Hope you enjoy the pictures!

P.S. Don't forget to "like" the new Bijou-Minou Facebook page!!!

Cool Down

My winter break is winding down to an end and I start classes on Monday. Some people seem to get really excited to go back to school and see all their friends and excape the monotony of staying at home all the time. I am not one of those people I guess! I much prefer staying home and doing things on my own time instead of working around my class schedule (which usually takes up the whole day).

I don't think I've actually posted a proper "winter outfit" on the blog yet! The weather here has been too warm to even think about wearing coats and scarves. I remember last year around this time, i wouldn't even go outside without multiple layers on! The weather this year has been so strange. During summer it was cold and now it's hot. But I'm not complaining! I love the warmer weather!

Hello 2012

Happy New Year!!!

I hope everyone had a safe and fun New Year's celebration! I can't wait to see what 2012 brings!

To celebrate this past weekend I went out for dinner and drinks on Friday with my boyfriend and then went to the movies last night. We saw "The Adventures of Tin Tin," which was actually more entertaining than I thought it would be. The theater was pretty empty, which I guess was good since we practically got our own private screening almost. My celebration wasn't anything elaborate or exciting, but it was fun none the less.

What did you all do to celebrate the New Year? Did you do anything special or have any parties?
